New Rule Allows Property Deed Registration Within Districts

✍️ The Times of India 🗓 21 Jul 2026, 03:33 AM 👁 1

The government has announced that property deeds can now be registered within their respective districts, eliminating the need to travel to state capital offices. The move aims to streamline the registration process and reduce delays.

The Ministry of Law and Justice has introduced a new directive allowing property deeds to be registered at district-level offices. Under the previous system, many property owners had to travel to state capital registration centers, often facing long queues and paperwork delays.

The directive states that any deed related to real estate—whether sale, transfer, or mortgage—can be processed at the district registration authority. This change is expected to speed up transactions and reduce the backlog of pending registrations.

Legal experts say the move will also cut costs for property owners, who no longer need to incur travel expenses or hire intermediaries to navigate the registration process. The government has promised to provide training to district officials to handle the increased workload efficiently.

The policy is effective from the start of the next fiscal quarter, and a pilot program will be launched in select districts to monitor its impact before a nationwide rollout.
