A newly proposed foundation aims to safeguard Karnataka’s historic monuments by encouraging adoption by individuals and organisations.
A new foundation has been proposed with the explicit goal of strengthening heritage conservation across Karnataka. The initiative, announced by cultural officials, seeks to create a structured mechanism through which historic sites can be "adopted" by private individuals, corporate entities, and NGOs.
Under the adoption model, adopters will receive official recognition and will be responsible for routine maintenance, restoration work, and public awareness activities at the selected monuments. In return, they gain branding opportunities and a role in preserving the state's rich cultural legacy.
The proposal outlines a phased rollout, beginning with a pilot involving ten prominent sites such as Hampi, Mysore Palace, and the Badami cave temples. Stakeholders from the Department of Archaeology, heritage experts, and potential adopters are slated to meet next month to finalize guidelines and funding mechanisms.
