Police and SSB arrested Nepali citizen Amar Chaudhary near the Friendship Bridge in Raxaul, seizing 11.246 kg of charas packed in 22 plastic‑bagged packets.
A joint team of Bihar police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) intercepted a Nepali national traveling on an e‑rickshaw near the Friendship Bridge in Raxaul, Muzaffarpur district. The suspect, identified as Amar Chaudhary, was stopped as he approached the Indian side of the border.
During the search, officers uncovered 22 plastic‑bagged packets containing a total of 11.246 kilograms of charas, a potent form of cannabis. The narcotics were concealed within the e‑rickshaw’s cargo area, indicating an attempt to smuggle the drug across the Indo‑Nepal border.
Police officials confirmed that the seized quantity represents one of the larger drug hauls recorded in the region in recent months. The suspect has been taken into custody and will face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether a larger trafficking network is involved.
The SSB spokesperson emphasized the agency’s heightened vigilance along border points, noting that collaborative operations with state police are crucial to curbing cross‑border drug smuggling.
