Nepal Declares National Mourning for Bhotekoshi Flood Victims

Kathmandu – The federal government of Nepal has proclaimed a three‑day national mourning period to honor those who lost their lives in the recent Bhotekoshi River flood. The disaster, triggered by heavy monsoon rains and sudden glacial melt, swept away villages along the river, causing extensive loss of life and property.

Authorities have ordered flags to be flown at half‑mast across the country and public events to be suspended during the mourning days. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed deep sorrow, urging citizens to support rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

Relief agencies and the Nepalese Army have been deployed to the affected districts, providing emergency shelter, food, and medical aid to survivors. The government has also promised financial assistance to families of the deceased, while a committee will investigate the causes of the flood to prevent future tragedies.

The Bhotekoshi region, a popular trekking and adventure hub, remains inaccessible due to damaged roads and bridges. Local officials are coordinating with international aid partners to expedite reconstruction and restore basic services.
