Neha Jha, arrested for allegedly transporting 75 litres of foreign liquor in the AC First Coupe of the Swatantrata Senani Express at Samastipur Junction, remains in custody as her bail request has been denied, with the next court hearing scheduled for 24 September.
The police detained Neha Jha after a raid at Samastipur Junction uncovered 75 litres of foreign liquor hidden in the air‑conditioned first‑class carriage of the Swatantrata Senani Express. Investigators say the contraband was intended for illegal distribution in the region.
Following her arrest, Jha applied for bail, but the district court rejected the petition, citing the seriousness of the offence and the quantity of alcohol involved. As a result, she continues to be held in judicial custody.
The case is slated for a further hearing on 24 September, when the court will decide on any further extensions of custody and consider the applicable penalties under the state's excise and narcotics regulations, which can include hefty fines and imprisonment.
