Neetu David Stresses Need for Power‑Hitting Training in Women’s Domestic Cricket

Former Indian fast‑bowler Neetu David, a veteran of the national women’s side, told Rediff that power‑hitting should become a core component of domestic training programmes. She argued that while Indian women’s cricket has made strides in technique and consistency, the ability to clear the boundary with ease remains limited, especially in the shorter formats.

David pointed out that regular strength‑and‑conditioning sessions, combined with specific batting drills focused on bat speed and timing, can bridge the gap. She cited examples from overseas leagues where power‑hitting has transformed match outcomes and urged Indian state associations to adopt similar regimes.

If implemented, she believes the move will not only raise the overall scoring rates but also prepare players for international competitions where aggressive batting is increasingly decisive. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce a formal plan, but David’s comments add pressure on administrators to modernise the women’s domestic circuit.
