The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced that the total MBBS seats for NEET 2026 will rise to 1.40 lakh, up from previous years. The state with the largest share of seats remains a key point of interest.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced that the total number of MBBS seats for the 2026 NEET UG will increase to 1.40 lakh, a rise from the 1.20 lakh seats allotted in 2025. The decision follows a review of medical education capacity and aims to accommodate a growing number of aspirants. While the overall seat count has grown, the allocation of seats among states will be based on the 2024 census data and the proportion of medical institutions in each state. Students can expect a slightly higher chance of securing a seat, but competition will remain intense. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the NEET 2026 exam in the usual format, and the results are expected in early 2026.
