A recent quality assessment by Himachal’s drug testing authority found that almost 29% of the medicines sampled in September did not meet required standards.

The Himachal Pradesh State Drug Control Department reported that nearly 29% of the medicine samples examined in September failed to meet the prescribed quality benchmarks. The assessment covered a cross‑section of pharmaceutical products circulating in the state’s retail and hospital pharmacies. Officials said the failures were identified through standard physicochemical and microbiological tests mandated under national drug regulations.

The department has flagged the sub‑standard batches to the manufacturers and instructed immediate recall where necessary. It also warned that continued distribution of such products could pose health risks to patients and undermine public confidence in the state's healthcare system.

Authorities plan to intensify surveillance, increase random sampling frequency, and conduct awareness workshops for pharmacists and distributors to ensure compliance with quality standards. The findings underscore the need for stricter oversight in the pharmaceutical supply chain across Himachal Pradesh.
