NCSC issues notice to Punjab government over denial of SC reservation in lecturer recruitment

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has sent a formal notice to the Punjab government, alleging that reservation benefits for Scheduled Caste candidates were denied in the recent lecturer recruitment process.
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has formally notified the Punjab state administration that reservation provisions for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates were not honoured in the latest recruitment drive for college lecturers.
According to the commission's notice, the selection process failed to allocate the mandated SC seats, thereby violating constitutional and statutory reservation norms. NCSC has asked the state to provide a detailed explanation and to rectify the shortfall before any further legal steps are taken.
The Punjab government has not yet issued a public response. The commission has warned that continued non‑compliance could attract judicial intervention to enforce the reservation entitlement.
If the matter proceeds, affected SC candidates may be eligible for remedial measures, including re‑conducting the selection or granting the withheld positions, as per prevailing reservation guidelines.
