NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar warns Maharashtra SIR exclusions could affect 30 million voters

MLA Rohit Pawar of the NCP (SP) said the Summary Revision of the Electoral Roll in Maharashtra may exclude as many as three crore voters, according to Mid‑Day.
Rohit Pawar, a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly representing the NCP (SP) faction, told media that the ongoing Summary Revision of the Electoral Roll (SIR) could lead to the exclusion of up to three crore voters in the state.
He made the statement in an interview with Mid‑Day, highlighting concerns that the scale of exclusions, if realized, would represent a significant portion of Maharashtra’s electorate and could affect future elections.
The Election Commission of India has not released official figures on the number of voters slated for removal under the current SIR exercise, and it declined to comment on Pawar’s estimate.
Analysts note that the SIR process, intended to update and clean the electoral roll, periodically removes duplicate or ineligible entries, but the magnitude of the claim has drawn attention from political observers.
Pawar urged the authorities to ensure transparency and to review the methodology to prevent inadvertent disenfranchisement of eligible voters.
