Nagpur Generates 28 Tonnes of CNG Daily from Waste, Says Minister Gadkari

Nagpur’s waste‑to‑CNG facility now produces 28 tonnes of compressed natural gas each day, a milestone highlighted by Minister Nitin Gadkari, who noted that 4,000 similar projects are planned nationwide.
Nagpur’s municipal waste management plant, located in the city’s western sector, has reached a production level of 28 tonnes of compressed natural gas (CNG) per day.
The facility uses anaerobic digestion to break down organic waste, capturing the resulting biogas and compressing it for use as a clean fuel. The process also reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills.
Energy generated from the CNG powers local street lighting and feeds into the city’s power grid, cutting greenhouse‑gas emissions and providing a renewable energy source for residents.
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted the project as a model for India, noting that 4,000 similar waste‑to‑CNG plants are currently underway across the country.
