The Nagaland Olympic Association has formally requested that the state allocate a 5% quota in government jobs for recognised sportspersons.

The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) has submitted a proposal to the state government calling for a dedicated reservation of five percent of all government posts for athletes who have represented the state or country. The association argues that such a quota would recognise the contributions of sportspersons and provide them with stable employment after their playing careers end.

NOA officials say the move aligns with similar reservation policies in other Indian states that aim to support athletes transitioning to civilian life. They have highlighted the need for a clear eligibility framework to ensure that only those with documented sporting achievements benefit from the scheme.

The state government has not yet issued a response, but the proposal is expected to be discussed in the upcoming departmental meeting on sports and youth welfare. If approved, the quota could be implemented in the next recruitment cycle for state civil services.

Stakeholders, including sports clubs and former athletes, have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a step toward greater institutional support for sports development in Nagaland.
