The Governor of Nagaland called on the Naga people to take full ownership of their historical and cultural narratives, emphasizing the need for self‑representation.

K. Sathasivam, the Governor of Nagaland, addressed a gathering of community leaders and scholars, urging them to assert control over the stories that define Naga identity. He highlighted that external narratives often overlook indigenous perspectives, and called for a concerted effort to document, preserve, and disseminate Naga history from within the community.

The governor stressed that owning the narrative is essential for cultural pride and political agency, especially as the region navigates ongoing peace talks and development initiatives. He appealed to educational institutions, media houses, and civil society to collaborate in creating platforms that amplify authentic Naga voices.

While no specific policy measures were announced, the governor indicated that his office will support initiatives that promote indigenous scholarship and storytelling. He concluded by urging younger generations to engage actively in preserving their heritage, ensuring that future narratives remain rooted in Naga experiences.
