Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio Urges Boost to State’s Sporting Culture

Kohima – In a public address, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio emphasized the need to cultivate a robust sporting culture across the state. He highlighted that sports can serve as a catalyst for youth empowerment, health improvement, and social cohesion.
Rio urged the state government, educational institutions, and private stakeholders to allocate greater resources for infrastructure, coaching and talent identification programs. He pointed to the success of athletes from the Northeast as evidence that focused support can produce national‑level competitors.
The chief minister also called on young people to actively participate in sports, noting that regular engagement can open pathways to scholarships and professional opportunities. He pledged that his administration would prioritize sports in its development agenda, seeking partnerships with national bodies to upgrade facilities and organize more competitions.
The remarks come as Nagaland seeks to raise its profile in national tournaments and address the limited access to quality training venues in many districts.
