Kohima, Nagaland – Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio highlighted the need for stronger infrastructure and tighter inter‑departmental coordination as the state prepares for the 27th edition of the Hornbill Festival. In a statement, the CM said that existing road networks, sanitation facilities and accommodation options must be upgraded to handle the influx of tourists and performers.
Rio called on the Public Works Department, Tourism and Urban Development agencies to finalize a joint action plan that addresses traffic management, waste disposal and emergency services during the festival period. He stressed that seamless coordination among these bodies is essential to showcase Nagaland's cultural heritage without logistical hiccups.
The Hornbill Festival, a flagship cultural event that draws visitors from across India and abroad, is scheduled to take place later this month in Kohima. The state government has pledged additional funding, but the CM emphasized that effective implementation and real‑time monitoring will determine the success of the celebrations.
Local officials have been instructed to conduct site inspections and engage with community leaders to ensure that the necessary upgrades are completed well before the opening ceremony. The CM assured that the government remains committed to delivering a safe and memorable experience for both participants and attendees.
