The Chief Secretary of Nagaland called for enhanced welfare mechanisms to ensure longer, dignified lives for the state’s senior citizens.

Kohima, Nagaland – The Chief Secretary of Nagaland addressed officials and stakeholders, emphasizing the need for more robust social and health infrastructure to support the state’s aging population. He highlighted that existing schemes are insufficient to guarantee a dignified and healthy life for senior citizens, and urged the government to streamline services, improve access to medical care, and expand pension and caregiving support.

In his remarks, the CS pointed out demographic trends indicating a rising proportion of elderly residents, which calls for proactive policy measures. He advocated for coordinated efforts between the health department, social welfare agencies, and local bodies to create a comprehensive safety net.

The call comes amid growing concerns across India about elderly care, and the CS pledged to prioritize the formulation of actionable plans within the state’s development agenda. He assured that the administration will monitor implementation closely to ensure that the promised improvements translate into tangible benefits for the elderly.

Stakeholders were invited to submit recommendations, and a task force is expected to be constituted to review existing programs and propose enhancements. The Chief Secretary concluded by affirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the dignity and well‑being of Nagaland’s senior citizens.
