The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Nagaland wing has declared its intention to field candidates in all 60 constituencies of the state legislative assembly, signalling a strategic shift ahead of the 2028 polls. The decision comes at a time when the BJP has traditionally shared power with the Naga People’s Front (NPF), a regional party that has been a key ally in the state’s coalition governments.
Party officials in Kohima said the move is aimed at expanding the BJP’s grassroots presence and offering voters a uniform platform across the state. They argue that contesting every seat will allow the party to present a cohesive development agenda and challenge the dominance of regional parties.
The NPF, however, has not yet issued a formal response, and political analysts warn that the aggressive stance could test the durability of the BJP‑NPF partnership. If the alliance frays, it may reshape the electoral calculus in Nagaland, where coalition dynamics have historically determined government formation.
