Representatives of Naga organisations submitted a petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging a political settlement to the ongoing Manipur crisis.

Naga representatives from various civil society bodies handed over a formal petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking the central government to pursue a political resolution to the unrest in Manipur. The document outlines their concerns about the prolonged violence and the humanitarian impact on local communities.

The Manipur crisis, which erupted in May 2023 following ethnic clashes between Meitei and Kuki groups, has resulted in dozens of deaths, mass displacement and a breakdown of law and order. Despite multiple security operations, the situation remains volatile, prompting calls for dialogue.

In the petition, the Naga groups stress that a sustainable peace can only be achieved through inclusive talks involving all stakeholders, including tribal and non‑tribal leaders. They also request the Prime Minister’s personal intervention to facilitate negotiations and ensure that any settlement respects constitutional provisions.

The central government has not yet issued a detailed response, but officials have indicated that the matter will be reviewed at the highest level. Analysts say the petition adds pressure on New Delhi to move beyond a security‑centric approach and address the underlying political grievances.
