A video recorded by a patient at the dental OPD of Muzaffarpur’s SKMCH shows staff allegedly demanding ₹8,000‑10,000 for a jaw operation, prompting the hospital’s superintendent to launch an inquiry.
Muzaffarpur’s Shaheed Krishan Kumar Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) dental outpatient department has become the focus of a criminal probe after a patient recorded a conversation in which staff allegedly demanded money for a jaw operation.
The video, which the patient later handed to the hospital superintendent Dr. Mahesh Prasad, shows the patient being asked to pay between ₹8,000 and ₹10,000 for the procedure and for the placement of wires, despite the treatment being part of routine care.
Following receipt of the footage, Dr. Prasad announced an internal investigation to verify the allegations and to take appropriate action against any staff involved. The hospital has not yet released a formal statement on the outcome.
Authorities have been alerted, and the case may be referred to police for further examination under provisions dealing with extortion and medical malpractice.
