Umashankar Kumar, a resident of Kuthni village in Muzaffarpur, arrived back in Bihar on Sunday after being stranded in Senegal for four months.

Umashankar Kumar, a native of Kuthni village in Muzaffarpur district, touched down at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday after a four‑month ordeal in Senegal. He boarded a train shortly after his arrival and reached his home in Kothiya village by late evening, where his wife and children were waiting.

The West African country had held the 38‑year‑old resident for several months, leaving his family back in Bihar uncertain about his whereabouts. While the exact circumstances of his detention were not disclosed, his prolonged stay abroad was described as involuntary and distressing.

Upon seeing his family, Kumar was overcome with emotion, shedding tears as he embraced his wife and children. He later told reporters that the experience had left a deep impression on him, adding, “I will not travel abroad again.”

Neighbors and local officials gathered at his house to welcome him, expressing relief that the long‑awaited reunion had finally taken place.
