A Muslim resident of Basni village in Nagaur has lodged a grievance with the Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission, accusing a purported khap panchayat of social boycott, threats and defamation.

The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission received a formal complaint from a Muslim youth residing in Basni village, Nagaur district. The complainant alleges that a locally operating khap panchayat subjected him and his family to social ostracism, intimidation and character defamation.

According to the filing, the alleged actions included a community-wide boycott, repeated threats to personal safety and attempts to tarnish the family’s reputation. The petitioner has requested police protection for his family and a thorough investigation into the individuals responsible for the alleged misconduct.

The commission has acknowledged the grievance and indicated that it will forward the matter to the appropriate law‑enforcement agencies for prompt action, while also monitoring the case for any further human‑rights violations.

No arrests have been reported as of now, and the commission has urged any witnesses to come forward with relevant information.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about extra‑judicial community bodies operating in parts of rural Rajasthan and their impact on minority residents.
