The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released a severe weather alert for Mumbai on Sunday, citing the southwest monsoon as the primary cause of heavy rainfall and widespread waterlogging across the city.
According to the alert, the city is likely to experience intense thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, especially in the late afternoon and evening hours. Residents are advised to avoid traveling on congested roads and to stay indoors during the peak rainfall.
Local authorities have mobilised emergency services and are monitoring flood-prone areas, particularly in South Mumbai and the suburbs of Andheri and Bandra. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation has urged citizens to keep emergency kits ready and to report any sudden water accumulation.
The IMD has also issued a warning for potential hail and strong winds in the northern districts of the city, urging residents to secure loose objects and to seek shelter if necessary.
