The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a man from Indore for distributing malicious Android application packages that were used by cyber fraudsters.
The Mumbai Crime Branch announced the arrest of a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who is accused of supplying malicious Android application packages (APKs) to groups involved in online fraud. Police said the suspect was identified through a cyber‑crime investigation that traced the distribution of the harmful software to several fraud operations across the country.
Malicious APKs are modified versions of legitimate Android apps that can hijack a device, steal personal data, or install additional malware. Such tools are increasingly favoured by fraudsters because they can be disguised as popular apps and spread via unofficial channels, making detection difficult for ordinary users.
Authorities have lodged a case under the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The suspect is currently in custody and will be produced before a Mumbai court for further legal proceedings. No additional arrests have been reported in connection with the case.
