A Mumbai CPWD engineer and four accomplices were taken into custody on suspicion of accepting a bribe of Rs 5 million, police said.

Mumbai police arrested a civil engineering officer of the city's CPWD (Central Public Works Department) along with four other individuals on charges of taking a bribe worth Rs 5 million. The arrests were made following a raid conducted by the anti-corruption wing of the police, who said the suspects were involved in a scheme to secure contracts in exchange for cash payments.

According to the police statement, the seized evidence includes cash, bank documents and communication records that link the engineer to the alleged illicit transactions. The officials are being held for further interrogation, and the case has been forwarded to the anti-corruption court for trial.

The CPWD, which handles construction and maintenance of public infrastructure in Mumbai, has not yet released an official comment on the matter. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have indicated that more arrests could follow if additional evidence emerges.
