A citywide traffic blockade scheduled for Sunday will shut down several key bridges in Mumbai, complicating Ganeshotsav preparations already slowed by NOC approvals.

Mumbai authorities have announced a citywide traffic block for this Sunday, affecting major arterial routes and closing several bridges that connect the island city to the mainland. The move, intended to facilitate essential maintenance and security checks, is expected to cause significant congestion across the western and central suburbs.

Transport officials warned commuters that alternate routes will be limited and advised the public to use public transport where possible. The closure of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Mahim Causeway and the upcoming Vashi Bridge repairs are expected to add up to three hours of additional travel time for regular commuters.

The timing of the block coincides with ongoing Ganeshotsav festivities, where many pandals and processions are still awaiting final NOC clearances. Organisers have expressed concern that the bridge shutdowns could delay the installation of idols and related infrastructure, potentially pushing back scheduled events.

Mumbai Police and the Municipal Corporation have assured that emergency services will retain access to all critical zones and that traffic management teams will be deployed at key intersections to mitigate gridlock. Residents are urged to stay updated through official channels for real‑time advisories.

The city’s civic administration has reiterated that the block is a one‑day measure, after which normal traffic flow is expected to resume, allowing Ganeshotsav preparations to proceed without further interruption.
