A multi‑storey building used as a paying‑guest accommodation in Satya Niketan, South Delhi, collapsed on Sunday, leaving an elderly resident trapped under the rubble.

A multi‑storey structure serving as a paying‑guest (PG) residence in the Satya Niketan neighbourhood of South Delhi collapsed abruptly on Sunday. According to local reports, the building gave way like a house of cards, sending concrete and debris crashing down on the occupants.

Eyewitnesses say an elderly man was seated calmly inside the premises when the collapse occurred, and he was subsequently buried under the fallen material. Emergency services arrived promptly, and rescue teams began clearing the wreckage while searching for the senior citizen.

A 21‑second CCTV clip captured the moment of failure, showing the building’s façade crumbling in a matter of seconds. Authorities have cordoned off the site and are conducting a preliminary investigation to determine structural or maintenance lapses that may have led to the disaster.

No official casualty figures have been released yet, but the incident has sent shockwaves across the capital, prompting calls for stricter safety inspections of aging residential buildings.

The Delhi Police and municipal officials have urged residents of similar structures to cooperate with inspection teams and report any signs of structural weakness.
