The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation announced plans to develop its surplus land through a public‑private partnership, granting up to 98‑year leases to private developers.
Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), the state‑run bus operator, said it will identify surplus parcels of land owned by the corporation and invite private partners to develop them under a public‑private partnership (PPP) framework.
Under the arrangement, private entities can obtain lease rights for a period not exceeding 98 years, after which the land reverts to the corporation. The long‑term lease is intended to attract investment and generate non‑fare revenue for the transport body.
The initiative aligns with Maharashtra’s broader strategy to monetize idle government assets and improve the financial sustainability of public services. MSRTC officials indicated that the process will follow a transparent bidding procedure and comply with existing land‑use regulations.
No specific projects have been announced yet; the corporation will release detailed guidelines and invite expressions of interest in the coming weeks.
