MP‑Northeast Rail Link Boosted as Two Weekly Specials Turn Regular Express

The weekly special trains between Bhopal’s Rani Kamalapati and Agartala, and between Hapa and Naharlagun, have been upgraded to regular weekly express services, enhancing connectivity from Madhya Pradesh to the Northeast.
Indian Railways has announced that two of its weekly special services will now run as regular weekly express trains, a move aimed at strengthening rail links between Madhya Pradesh and the northeastern region of the country.
The Rani Kamalapati (Bhopal)–Agartala service, previously operating as a special train, will now run on a fixed weekly schedule as an express. This route connects the central heartland with the capital of Tripura, offering passengers a reliable option for long‑distance travel across several states.
Similarly, the Hapa–Naharlagun special, which links the western port city of Hapa in Gujarat with the Arunachal Pradesh town of Naharlagun, has been converted to a regular weekly express. The upgrade is expected to facilitate smoother movement of people and goods between the western coast and the far‑eastern frontier.
Transport analysts note that regularising these services will not only improve passenger convenience but also boost economic interaction between the regions, benefiting trade, tourism and regional development. The change is particularly welcomed by the Bhopal mandal, which anticipates increased connectivity and travel opportunities.
The decision reflects a broader strategy by the rail ministry to enhance inter‑regional connectivity and address long‑standing demand for dependable train services linking central India with the Northeast.
