The Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed the Centre’s petition against the Central Administrative Tribunal’s directive to complete the IPS cadre review within 120 days, deeming the CAT order valid.

The High Court of Madhya Pradesh, sitting in Jabalpur, rejected a petition filed by the central government challenging the Central Administrative Tribunal’s (CAT) directive that all Indian Police Service (IPS) cadres must undergo a comprehensive review within 120 days.

The petition argued that the CAT’s order exceeded its jurisdiction and imposed an unrealistic time frame on the central administration. However, the court found the petition to be without merit and upheld the CAT’s decision.

In its judgment, the court affirmed that the CAT’s order was within its statutory powers and that the 120‑day deadline was a reasonable measure to ensure timely and efficient cadre management.

The ruling reinforces the autonomy of the CAT in matters of civil service administration and signals that the central government must comply with the tribunal’s directives regarding cadre reviews.
