The Madhya Pradesh Congress party has announced a new initiative to tackle non‑performing loans in District Cooperative Credit societies, calling for stricter oversight and possible closures.
The Madhya Pradesh Congress party has unveiled a focused campaign to address the growing problem of non‑performing assets in District Cooperative Credit (DCC) societies across the state.
The party’s state unit said it will conduct a comprehensive audit of all DCCs, identify those with high levels of non‑performing loans, and recommend stricter regulatory oversight.
If a DCC is found to be unable to meet its financial obligations, the Congress leadership has called for restructuring measures or, in extreme cases, closure of the society to protect the interests of depositors and the wider credit system.
The initiative comes amid rising concerns over the health of rural credit institutions, which play a vital role in financing agriculture and small‑scale enterprises in Madhya Pradesh. By tightening accountability, the party aims to restore confidence in the cooperative credit sector and curb the spread of bad loans.
