Madhya Pradesh's new Fishery Policy-2026 aims to raise fish production from 445,000 to 1 million tonnes within three years and generate about 50,000 jobs, announced Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.

Bhopal, Oct 23 — Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav unveiled the Madhya Pradesh Fishery Policy-2026, setting an ambitious target to increase the state’s fish production from the current 4.45 lakh tonnes to one million tonnes by 2026. The three‑year plan focuses on attracting private and public investment to modernise aquaculture infrastructure, improve seed supply and expand cold‑chain facilities.

The policy also earmarks the creation of roughly 50,000 direct and indirect jobs across the fisheries value chain, from hatcheries to processing units. Officials said the state will offer financial incentives, skill‑development programmes and streamlined approvals to encourage entrepreneurs and existing fish farmers to scale up operations.

If achieved, the projected output would more than double the present level, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a leading fish‑producing state in central India and contributing to food security and rural livelihoods.
