The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved the Uniform Civil Code draft, which will introduce uniform rules for marriage, divorce, and live-in relationships. The draft excludes scheduled tribes.
The Madhya Pradesh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has given its approval to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft. This move is expected to bring about significant changes in the state's laws related to marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships. The UCC draft aims to introduce uniform rules for all citizens, regardless of their religion or community. However, it excludes the scheduled tribes from its purview. The draft also proposes to make 'nikah halala' a punishable offense and introduces stricter rules for live-in relationships.
