A member of Parliament has set a goal of securing one billion dollars of private capital for renewable energy projects supported by the Asian Development Bank.
New Delhi — A senior parliamentarian announced a target of mobilising US$1 billion in private sector funds for renewable energy initiatives that will be underwritten by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The proposal is part of a broader push to accelerate India’s transition to clean power and to meet its climate commitments.
The ADB-backed scheme is expected to focus on solar, wind and hybrid projects across the country, leveraging the bank’s technical expertise and concessional financing to de‑risk private participation. By channeling private capital, the government hopes to close the financing gap that has slowed large‑scale clean‑energy deployments.
The MP urged domestic and foreign investors to evaluate the pipeline, noting that the projects will be aligned with India’s national renewable targets for 2030. If successful, the infusion of $1 billion could catalyse further investment, create jobs and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Stakeholders are slated to receive detailed project outlines in the coming weeks, with the first contracts anticipated to be awarded by the end of the fiscal year.
