A 28-year-old woman and her newborn twins died in Mandla district after an ambulance failed to reach her promptly and the bad road caused further delay, officials said she suffered from sickle‑cell disease.
Rukmani Nareti, 28, went into labour in the village of Saleya in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh. According to relatives, an ambulance was not dispatched in time and the narrow, pothole‑ridden road further delayed her transfer to the nearest hospital.
The family alleges that the combined effect of the ambulance’s tardiness and the poor condition of the road prevented her from receiving timely medical care, leading to the death of the mother and her twin newborns.
Hospital officials confirmed that the woman suffered from sickle‑cell disease, a condition that can complicate pregnancy and childbirth. They added that despite the emergency, the delay in reaching the facility was a critical factor in the tragic outcome.
