The Mohali municipal authority approved the regularisation of 480 sanitation staff, converting them to permanent positions.

The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MMC) has passed a resolution to regularise 480 sanitation workers employed on a contractual basis. Under the new arrangement, these workers will be transferred to permanent posts, receiving the benefits and job security accorded to regular staff.

The decision was taken during a council meeting where officials highlighted the need to improve morale and service quality in the city’s waste‑management system. The regularisation is expected to be implemented over the next few months, subject to budgetary allocations and completion of necessary administrative formalities.

City officials said the move aligns with broader state‑level initiatives to formalise the workforce in essential services. By granting permanent status, the MMC aims to reduce turnover, ensure consistent cleaning standards, and provide workers with pension and health benefits.

The proposal also included a review of other contractual positions, but the primary focus of the meeting was the sanitation staff regularisation, which received unanimous support from council members.
