Protesters blocked a major highway in Mohali, forming long queues of vehicles, demanding the arrest of an accused in a sexual assault case.
On Thursday, demonstrators gathered on the Mohali–Laldu stretch of the national highway, blocking traffic for several hours. The protest was organized by local activists and victims’ families who demanded the immediate arrest of an accused in a recent sexual assault case.
The crowd, numbering in the hundreds, formed a continuous line of cars and motorcycles, causing a significant slowdown for commuters and freight transport. Police were deployed to manage the crowd and clear the route, but the congestion persisted until late afternoon.
Authorities stated that they were investigating the allegations and had not yet taken any action against the accused. The protestors, however, insisted that the investigation was stalled and called for a swift judicial response.
The incident highlights the growing frustration among citizens over delays in the criminal justice system, especially in cases involving sexual violence.
