Prime Minister Narendra Modi promoted the ‘Wed In India’ campaign, highlighting five high‑profile Indian wedding venues as alternatives to overseas locations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi used a recent address to champion the "Wed In India" initiative, urging couples to consider domestic venues rather than travelling abroad for their nuptials. The campaign is part of a broader effort to boost local tourism and showcase India's capacity to host world‑class celebrations.

During the launch, Modi pointed to five venues that have previously hosted celebrity weddings, including the historic City Palace in Jaipur, the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, the Leela Palace in Bengaluru, the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur and the JW Marriott in Mumbai. Each location offers distinct cultural backdrops—from regal heritage architecture to coastal luxury—demonstrating the diversity of options within the country.

Industry analysts say the endorsement could spur a surge in high‑end wedding bookings, benefitting hospitality, event management and ancillary services. By keeping spending domestic, the government hopes to generate employment and increase foreign‑exchange earnings through related tourism.

Wedding planners and venue operators have welcomed the push, noting a growing appetite among affluent couples for unique Indian settings that combine tradition with modern amenities. The ministry plans to roll out promotional packages and tax incentives to further encourage the trend.
