Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and signaled an upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, underscoring India's delicate positioning within BRICS.

New Delhi’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, travelled to Moscow where he met Russian President Vladimir Putin for a bilateral discussion. The two leaders exchanged views on regional security, energy cooperation and the ongoing war in Ukraine, reaffirming the strategic partnership between India and Russia.
Modi emphasized India’s need for reliable energy supplies and highlighted opportunities for Russian oil and gas imports under existing agreements. Both sides also touched upon defence collaboration and the importance of a multipolar world order.
Following the Moscow talks, officials indicated that Modi will travel to Beijing later this month for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The upcoming dialogue is expected to focus on trade, technology and coordination within the BRICS framework, as India seeks to maintain balanced ties with both Moscow and Beijing.
Analysts note that India’s diplomatic choreography reflects a “tightrope” walk, aiming to extract economic benefits while avoiding alignment with any single bloc. The government has reiterated that its foreign policy will remain independent and driven by national interests.
