India and China jointly offered a peace proposal to Russia's President Putin on Ukraine at the recent BRICS summit, signalling a coordinated stance toward the West.

New Delhi and Beijing used the BRICS summit to present a joint proposal aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, addressing President Vladimir Putin directly. The offer, outlined in a joint statement, called for immediate ceasefire, humanitarian corridors and a framework for political dialogue involving all parties.

The coordinated move underscores the growing diplomatic partnership between India and China, as both seek to position themselves as mediators in global conflicts. Officials said the proposal reflects the BRICS members' desire to reduce reliance on Western-led peace initiatives.

While the West has welcomed any effort to de‑escalate the conflict, analysts note that the joint offer also serves as a strategic signal to Washington and its allies, highlighting an alternative diplomatic pathway championed by the emerging economies.

The summit, attended by leaders of the five BRICS nations, concluded with a reaffirmation of the group's commitment to multilateralism and a new "BRICS playbook" for coordinated action on international issues, including the Ukraine crisis.
