Mob lynching in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan: Youth dies after five‑hour beating over alleged wire theft

Three youths were beaten for about five hours by a mob of 20‑25 people in Tibbi, Hanumangarh, after being suspected of stealing electric wires; one, Mahendra, died and two were injured. Police have registered murder and SC/ST Act cases.
A violent mob attack unfolded in Tibbi, a town in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, where three young men were accused of stealing electricity wires. According to local reports, a crowd of roughly 20 to 25 individuals surrounded the youths and subjected them to a prolonged beating that lasted close to five hours.
The alleged perpetrators were identified as Mahendra and two other youths, all of whom were reportedly restrained and beaten repeatedly. The mob’s actions were driven by the suspicion that the trio had been involved in pilfering high‑voltage power lines, a crime that often provokes strong community backlash in rural areas.
The assault resulted in the death of Mahendra, while the other two youths sustained injuries that required medical attention. Authorities confirmed that Mahendra succumbed to the injuries sustained during the beating.
Following the incident, the Rajasthan police registered a FIR under sections pertaining to murder and also invoked the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, reflecting the seriousness of the crime and the community composition of the victims.
