Mizoram cricketer Chinmay Sutar has shattered a 123‑year‑old record held by Australian legend William Ponsford in recent domestic cricket.
In a remarkable display of skill, Chinmay Sutar, a cricketer from Mizoram, has broken a 123‑year‑old record previously held by Australian cricket legend William Ponsford. The achievement came during a recent domestic match, marking a historic moment for Mizoram cricket.
Ponsford, who played for Australia in the early 20th century, set the record in the 1900s, and it had stood unchallenged for more than a century. Sutar’s performance has drawn praise from cricket analysts and fans alike, highlighting the growing talent emerging from the northeastern states.
The record’s significance lies not only in its longevity but also in the level of competition in modern cricket. Sutar’s feat underscores the increasing competitiveness of domestic cricket in India and the potential for players from smaller states to make a national impact.
Cricket officials have confirmed that the record was officially recognized by the governing bodies, and Sutar has expressed gratitude for the support from his teammates and the Mizoram cricket community.
