The Mizoram government has released a detailed plan to boost hydrocarbon exploration in the state, aiming to attract investment and assess untapped oil and gas reserves.
The state administration of Mizoram has drafted a comprehensive roadmap to accelerate hydrocarbon exploration within its territory. The document outlines strategic steps for geological surveys, partnership with private sector firms, and the creation of a dedicated facilitation cell to streamline clearances.
Officials say the initiative is intended to tap the region's potential oil and natural gas deposits, which have remained largely unexplored due to limited infrastructure and investment. The roadmap also proposes incentives such as tax rebates and simplified licensing procedures to lure national and international energy companies.
The plan will be presented to the central Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for alignment with national policies, and a timeline of phased actions has been set for the next five years. Stakeholders are expected to submit proposals by the end of the quarter, after which feasibility studies will commence.
If successful, the exploration drive could diversify Mizoram's economy, generate employment, and contribute to India's broader energy security goals.
