Mizoram student body MZP calls for tighter border security and stricter ILP enforcement

The Mizoram Zoram People's (MZP) student body has formally appealed to the state administration for stronger border protection measures along the state’s frontiers. In a statement released earlier this week, the group highlighted concerns over illegal crossings and the perceived laxity in monitoring the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime.

MZP officials argue that the porous borders with neighboring states and Bangladesh pose security and socio‑economic challenges, urging the government to deploy additional personnel, install surveillance infrastructure, and tighten verification procedures for ILP holders. They contend that a robust ILP enforcement is essential to safeguard local livelihoods and maintain cultural integrity.

The student union has also called for a review of existing policies, suggesting periodic audits and community‑level awareness campaigns. While the state government has not yet issued a formal response, officials have indicated that the concerns will be examined in the upcoming departmental meeting on border management.
