Mizoram Seeks Expanded Job Opportunities for Youth in Japan

The state government of Mizoram has announced that it is actively looking at ways to broaden job prospects for its young population in Japan. Officials said the move aims to tap into Japan's demand for skilled and semi‑skilled workers and to provide Mizo youth with overseas exposure.

In recent weeks, representatives from Mizoram's labour and skill development departments have initiated dialogue with Japanese counterparts to identify sectors where Mizo candidates could be placed. The discussions are focused on creating a structured pathway that could include language training, credential recognition and support for visa procedures.

If successful, the initiative is expected to diversify employment options for Mizoram's youth, reduce local under‑employment and strengthen bilateral ties between the two regions. The government has not yet disclosed a timeline for the rollout, but it indicated that pilot programmes could commence later this year.
