Mizoram has achieved a literacy rate of 99.8 percent, according to recent data, and the state government has launched initiatives to bring the remaining illiterate population into the education system.

Mizoram's literacy rate has risen to 99.8 percent, placing it among the highest in the country, based on the latest survey conducted by the state's education department.

Officials said the remaining 0.2 percent represents a small but significant group of learners, mostly in remote hill areas and among marginalized communities, who have yet to access formal schooling.

To address this gap, the Mizoram government has intensified its adult education programs, mobile learning units, and community-based literacy camps, aiming to bring every remaining learner into the fold by the end of the fiscal year.

Education ministers emphasized that achieving total literacy is not only a statistical milestone but also a step toward broader socio‑economic development, and they urged local leaders and NGOs to support the outreach efforts.
