Mizoram's heritage department reports that the state now safeguards 79 monuments, with two placed under the Archaeological Survey of India, according to Minister C. Lalsawivunga.

State Heritage Minister C. Lalsawivunga announced that Mizoram currently protects 79 monuments under state legislation, while two of these sites have been handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India for central oversight. The minister highlighted that the expanded inventory reflects a systematic survey carried out over the past year, aiming to document structures ranging from ancient fortifications to colonial-era churches.

The two monuments now under ASI jurisdiction are expected to receive enhanced conservation funding and technical expertise, aligning Mizoram's heritage management with national standards. Officials said the central agency will conduct detailed condition assessments and develop preservation plans that respect local cultural contexts.

Looking ahead, the state government intends to promote these sites as part of cultural tourism initiatives, encouraging responsible visitation while safeguarding historical integrity. Further collaborations with the ASI are planned to identify additional structures that may qualify for national protection in the future.
