The state of Mizoram is seeking to embed sustainability in its tourism sector as visitor numbers rise sharply.
Mizoram's tourism department has announced a renewed focus on sustainable practices as the state experiences a notable increase in domestic and international visitors. Officials say the surge presents both opportunities for economic growth and challenges in preserving the region's fragile ecosystems.
The government plans to integrate eco‑friendly guidelines into tourism infrastructure, promote community‑based initiatives, and enforce stricter waste‑management protocols at popular sites. Stakeholders are being consulted to ensure that development does not compromise the natural and cultural heritage that draws travelers to the hills.
Authorities intend to monitor the impact of these measures through regular assessments, aiming to balance revenue generation with long‑term environmental stewardship. The approach reflects a broader national trend of aligning tourism growth with sustainability goals.
