The Governor of Mizoram called on the state's budding engineers to pursue interdisciplinary studies and collaborate beyond traditional engineering curricula.
Mizoram Governor K. V. Dharmalingam addressed a gathering of engineering students and faculty at a recent academic conference in Aizawl. He emphasized that the rapidly evolving technological landscape demands engineers who can integrate knowledge from fields such as computer science, data analytics, and environmental studies. Dharmalingam warned that sticking to narrow, discipline‑specific curricula could limit career prospects and hamper innovation.
The governor highlighted examples where interdisciplinary projects have led to successful startups and research breakthroughs in other Indian states. He urged universities and colleges in Mizoram to revise curricula, promote joint courses, and facilitate industry‑academia partnerships that expose students to real‑world challenges.
Officials from the state education department said they will review existing engineering programs and explore collaborations with national research institutes. The call aligns with the central government's push for a more versatile workforce capable of meeting the demands of a digital and green economy.
