Chief Minister Lalduhoma reminisced about a 1985 India Today magazine cover that featured his photograph alongside film icon Amitabh Bachchan.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma reflected on a memorable media moment from his early political career, recalling that his photograph appeared on the cover of India Today in 1985 alongside Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. The former politician said, “My photograph was with Amitabh Bachchan,” highlighting the unexpected crossover between regional politics and national entertainment.
The 1985 issue of India Today, a leading news magazine, featured the two personalities on its front page, a rare instance where a northeastern Indian leader shared space with a pan‑Indian film star. At the time, Lalduhoma was a prominent figure in Mizoram’s political landscape, while Amitabh Bachchan was at the height of his cinematic fame.
Lalduhoma’s recollection comes as he serves as the state’s chief minister, underscoring how that cover remains a point of personal pride and a reminder of the broader visibility he once enjoyed on the national stage.
The magazine’s archives continue to be referenced for historical snapshots of India’s political and cultural intersections, and the 1985 cover remains a notable example of such a blend.
