Mizoram's state government announced that it has procured more than 200,000 quintals of ginger so far in 2024, according to the minister.

The Mizoram government disclosed that it has purchased over 2 lakh quintals of ginger during the current financial year, a figure confirmed by the state minister in a recent statement. This procurement underscores the administration's focus on strengthening the ginger value chain in the northeastern state.

According to the minister, the bulk purchase is intended to provide a reliable market for local ginger growers, helping them secure better prices and reduce post‑harvest losses. The state plans to channel the procured produce to both domestic and export markets, leveraging Mizoram's reputation for high‑quality ginger.

The announcement comes as part of broader agricultural initiatives aimed at boosting farmer incomes and diversifying crop portfolios in the region. Officials indicated that further procurement rounds may be scheduled depending on seasonal output and market demand.
